8 Wake-Up Calls for Your Wild Creative Self

This may or may not be a huge surprise to you, but if you’re a creative soulpreneur, your business runs on more than strategy and caffeine. And I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing I love better than a good cup of coffee and a strategy chat with my bestie.

Okay, being serious here… Your creative business runs on ideas. On inspiration. On the magical, messy, sometimes elusive spark that turns scribbles into offers, ramblings into content, and big bold dreams into actual income.

So when that spark fizzles? Yeah… it’s a problem.

The truth is that your creativity isn’t gone. It’s just napping. And sometimes it needs a gentle nudge (or sometimes not so gentle) to come back online.

The good news is that I have a few ideas on how to do that.

Here are 8 ways to ways to wake up your creativity again:

1. Change the scenery.

If you’ve been staring at the same four walls and expecting new ideas to magically appear… how’s that working for you?

Your brain is bored.

Shake things up.

Go journal at a café, bring your laptop to the library, or just move your chair to face a different window. If all else fails, rearrange your desk.

New energy, new ideas.

2. Stop making it about YOU.

Creative pressure hits hard when you're trying to “prove” something.

So stop.

Pretend you’re helping a friend solve this problem instead. Get outside your own head. Weirdly, this trick works like magic.

3. Find a brainstorming buddy

You know that one person who always lights you up?

Call them.

Brainstorming with another human (who gets it, and who gets you) can pull ideas out of the ethers that you’d never get on your own.

Bonus points if they also think in half-sentences, speak in metaphors and finish your thoughts before you do.

4. Break your own rules.

You’re allowed to write at 5am.

Or midnight.

Or in the bathtub. (Haven’t tried this one yet.)

You don’t have to stick to the same “productive hours” every day. Try a new rhythm and see what happens. Your creative muse might just be a night owl.

My personal favourite time to write? Somewhere between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. (A morning person I am not.)

5. Crank up the tunes!

Music is magic. Science says so.

So crank up the jazz, the indie folk, the angry-girl pop, or the lo-fi beats. Let the rhythm bypass your overthinking brain and talk straight to your creative soul.

This works!

I almost always have music on when I’m working, and I’ve noticed that the days I feel the most stuck are the ones where the house is silent.

I grew up in a musical household. My dad was a piano teacher who played in a jazz band on the weekends. I started playing the piano at 3, and the flute at 8, so it makes sense to me because there’s always been music in my life.

6. Meditate. (Or at least stare at the wall for a bit.)

Seriously.

Shut your eyes. Breathe.

Even two minutes of quiet can clear the junk in your head and make space for something new.

You don’t have to be a monk—just give your brain a break.

7. Hydrate.

Creativity doesn’t flow on caffeine alone.

I have nothing against a good cup of coffee… it’s my first-thing-in-the-morning go-to.

But, when your creativity is feeling clogged, you’re probably a little dehydrated. And for that, water is the best fuel for your cells and your ideas.

8. Go outside. Like, right now.

(Well, unless it's 2 a.m. )

Nature doesn’t hustle. It flows.

So go stand in the sunshine, walk by the river, and breathe some fresh air into those stuck places.

Let the wind mess up your hair and remind you that your next brilliant idea probably isn’t hiding in your inbox.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to wait for a lightning bolt of inspiration to strike before you create.

Sometimes you just need to shake things up, shift the energy, and remind your creative self that it’s safe—and wanted—to come out and play.

These wake-up calls aren’t rules. They’re invitations.

To experiment. To stop pushing. To find your way back to what actually lights you up.

Because when you’re building a soul-led business, your creativity isn’t optional... it’s everything.
